Suleiman is a record label that has established itself as a consistent purveyor of genres that range from minimal house to deep techno and its catalogue features names such as Cesare vs Disorder, Pheek, Robert Babicz, Butane, Onur Ozman and Kris Wadsworth.
The label’s first release of 2023 sees the return of Finland’s Valeria Croft who previously featured a remix on Suleiman in 2017, but this time she returns with two of her original tracks plus a remix by The Mekanism.
Valeria Croft is a Helsinki-based DJ and producer with a stripped-back and atmospheric style that is both deep and techy. His music can also be heard on other record labels including Meatbean Germany, RA+RE France, Kanja and Render Obedience.
The Mekanism is a French artist from Paris who has risen to fame as a skilled DJ and talented producer who has released tracks on labels such as Exploited, Robsoul Recordings, Play It Say It, 20/20 Vision and Moan.
“Thankful” is first on the release and it’s got a deep and groovy bassline that forms a solid foundation for the rippling pads and a medley of trippy vocal samples that give the track a psychedelic atmosphere.
The Mekanism’s remix of Thankful is an upbeat version with a new bassline and reduced atmospherics so the vocal and percussion can become more of a focus.
“Affectionate” brings the EP to a close with tranquil pads and a seductive vocal sample layered with shuffling hi-hats and an acid-tinged bassline.
