Making a long-awaited debut on Dear Deer is the DJ, Producer, and Activist Javier Portilla with the ‘Total Liberation EP’. Remix support is from label favorite Rafael Cerato and a label debutant Novakk.
Barcelona-based producer and label manager at Moonchild Records, Javier Portilla is signed to a number of high-performing labels such as Natura Sonoris, Asymmetric, Armada Music, and Perspectives Digital, plus his own label Moonchild with boasts plays and support from all the big names.
An important and personal EP to Javier, they speak of self-awareness, humanity, and justice – something culturally significant to many of us over the last few difficult years. Opening with dirty low-end fury, ‘Total Liberation’ is a slow burn track for those hypnotic late sets when you’ve found your space on the floor and are ready to groove for hours. ‘Come Closer’ takes a tough tribal groove and adds melodic dirt from the off. Hypnotic and inviting, the main motifs veer off on tangents as if possessed before a mutated voice and spiky bass shock us into a reality allowing the sonics to power up for the main break.
