Helena Hauff is something of a hero when it comes to crafting energetic, high octane techno. A producer with a palette that veers toward electro sounds, the Golden Pudel resident has left an inimitable mark on the scene over the past few years thanks to a relentless touring schedule as well as a series of excellent received records. Ahead of her appearance at Sea Dance Festival in Montenegro, we look at some of her best. With Helena, we also feel the best may be yet to come.
Spur
The track that set Hauff on the way to recognition in the wider techno scene, Spur is an immense 4-and-a-half minute blast of shivering intensity that never rests for one moment. Catchy, pounding and just a little bit eerie, it’s without doubt the sound of a producer at her best.
C45P
Although it’s hard to believe it’s now 4 years old, this one rivals Spur as Hauff’s most iconic track. Those breaks and those melodies are precisely the sort of sounds you just love hearing in the club around 4 am. Which probably explains its popularity over the last few years.
Gift
If you like melodic techno with a real spirit behind it, than chances are you’ll dig ‘Gift’. What’s more, the video is great too.
Qualm
Just as comfortable making deep sci-fi tinged house as she is pumping techno, this synth-heavy beast is proof that Hauff is well capable of mixing things up in devastating effect. A sad, almost melancholy jam that sounds at its most haunting and effective at the end of the night, this one is taken from Hauff’s last album on Ninja Tune.
Hyper-Intelligent Genetically Enriched Cyborg
What a track title and what a tune. One word: acid!
Sea Dance Festival takes place on 30 August – 1st September. Get tickets here: https://www.seadancefestival.me/en/
